Welfare even the Left rejects

In a bizarre example of confirmation bias gone awry, the A.B.C. and The Australian both drew from the My School data the conclusion that funding levels were about on par for government and private schools, while another unlikely couple from Melbourne, The Age and the Herald Sun, read the same data to mean that private schools were hogging the public trough at the cost of their government counterparts.

But what is even more bizarre is the fact that The Australian, while proudly trumpeting its market-liberal stance on every other issue, continues to support the puzzling-to-foreigners notion that taxpayers should fund private schools at all – a form of welfare even the Left rejects.
