Taboo

The Australian offers rare praise for the ABC: “Lateline has done a good job this week examining the shortcomings that might have arisen from contracting out management of detention centres” (“Flicking the switch to Doha”, 7/5).

But the next sentence reverts to the customary sinking of the boot into the ABC, without pausing to explain why The Australian has not published a single word on this issue, despite its obvious pertinence to the recent riots. Could it be that the ill-effects of privatisation are taboo subjects in The Australian’s version of political correctness?
